Climate, best travel time & accessibility
One of the biggest advantages of Montenegro is its wonderful climate. Thanks to its location on the Adriatic Sea, the coast enjoys long, warm summers and mild winters. At the same time, inland you will find impressive mountain areas where the climate is completely different. This means you can enjoy sun, sea and nature in one holiday.
A destination for every season
Montenegro is an attractive holiday destination all year round. In spring the landscape is in full bloom, the temperatures are pleasant and it is still wonderfully quiet. Summer brings long sunny days, lively boulevards and warm sea water. In autumn it often remains pleasant for weeks, while winter is ideal for snow and mountain lovers.
Spring, summer, autumn and winter
Spring (March – May)
Spring is perfect for hikers, nature lovers and anyone who wants to discover Montenegro in peace. Temperatures are usually between 18 and 25 degrees on the coast and nature is at its most beautiful.
Summer (June – August)
Summer is the high season. Temperatures often rise to 28 to 35 degrees and the Adriatic Sea is wonderfully warm. Beaches, beach clubs and terraces are fully open and there is a pleasant holiday atmosphere everywhere.
Autumn (September – October)
For many visitors, this may be the most beautiful period. The sea is still warm from the summer, temperatures are often between 22 and 30 degrees and it is considerably quieter than in July and August. Ideal for a relaxing holiday.
Winter (November – February)
Winters are mild along the coast, while snow falls in the mountains and winter sports are possible. This means you can even go skiing in Montenegro and be back at the seaside within a few hours.
How to reach Montenegro?
Montenegro is surprisingly easily accessible from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The country has two international airports: Podgorica Airport and Tivat Airport.
Podgorica Airport is ideal for Bar, Lake Skadar and the interior. Tivat Airport is perfect for the coastal towns of Budva, Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi.
Both airports are suitable for a stay at Apartment Dunja in Bar. From Podgorica you drive to Bar in about 40 to 50 minutes. From Tivat the travel time is approximately one hour, depending on traffic.
